Monahans from Austin, TX make their San Antonio debut at the Limelight on January 15, 2011. Sharing the bill are local acts Blowing Trees and Fear Snakeface.

Critically praised Austin-based band Monahans will be performing for the first time ever in San Antonio this month. They will be playing at the Limelight on Saturday, Jan. 15th starting at 11:45 PM, and will be sharing the bill with Fear Snakeface and Blowing Trees, both local San Antonio acts.

(Doors will open at 10
PM and the cover charge is $5. Located at 2718 N. St. Mary's Street)

This year alone, Monahans has been busier than ever. Starting off the year as Austin Monthly and Tribeza Magazine's "Bands to Watch in 2010", Monahans embarked on a new recording process in March. They started recording and releasing a new free track each month that was downloadable on their website, http://monahans.net

Their last track, released in December, featured the vocals of Sinéad O'Connor. Monahans also was invited to play Austin City Limits Satellite Sets for a live taping that was broadcast online http://www.klru.org/satellitesets/artist/monahans/

And, finally, Robert Plant included a song written and recorded by members of Monahans (when they were formerly Milton Mapes), on his new album "Band of Joy". "The Only Sound That Matters" was originally included on "The State Line", issued in 2001.

Monahans Biography:
Austin-based band Monahans (not "The Monahans"), named for a region of desolate West Texas sandhills, balances thundering rhythms and atmospheric "landscape rock" with urgent pop anthems and spiritual, campfire balladry (Explosions In the Sky + R.E.M + Neil Young). Since their 2006 inception, Monahans have toured in support of Centro-matic and Cowboy Junkies, and played alongside the likes of J. Tillman & Magnolia Electric Co. Albums to date include 'Low Pining' (2007, Undertow) and 'Dim The Aurora' (2009, Misra).

The band's lineup consists of Ramble Creek studio engineer/producer Britton Beisenherz, Roberto Sanchez and Greg Vanderpool (both founding members of Milton Mapes), and longtime Spoon bassist Joshua Zarbo.
