Savage Beauty - Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen's Iconic Designs will be celebrated in Spring 2011 Costume Institute Retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum. The exhibit, titled 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,' will be open to the public May 4th to July 31st 2011 and will be the focus of the Met's annual Costume Institute Gala on May 2nd. | Les créations emblématiques d'Alexander McQueen seront à l'honneur lors de cette retrospective au Metropolitan Museum. Kris Kuksi
Kansas artist Kris Kuksi finds his creativity in mass-produced industrial trash. His sculptures are a hodge podge of toys, wood, plastics glued together, beheaded figures, fire and paint, depicting scenes of war or religious and mythological scenes. Or all of the above. But the beauty of Kuksi's art lies in the intricate details and the scale of his pieces and if you look closely, you will find satirical themes hiding under the surface: violence, corruption and emotional baggage in the form of objects wrapped around the characters' waist. You can now enjoy the full scale of Kuksi's genius thanks to this stunning 140-page volume entitled "Divination and Delusion". Serious collectors can also get their hands on a limited edition bronze cast of his Churchtank Type 9. One of the delights of digital photography is that you’re freed from the tyranny of having to decide whether something you see is worth using a frame of film, which means that you can take photographs of anything. I wonder how many people do. Take photos of anything, that is. For me, the only criterion is whether I like the image. It doesn’t have to be an intimate snapshot of friends or family;

L'expo regroupe sculptures, mannequins, assemblages, jouets et autres objets 3-D. Faites attention de ne pas rater la sculpture de Kris Kuksi, un artiste dont on parlera très bientôt dans notre blog.

Conjoined - In 3D! presents classic sculptures, Life like models, Surreal assemblages, mixed media paintings, life sized toys and other conjoined works in 3-D. Pocket Full of Posiez
Faites la connaissance de Queenie, la créatrice de Pocket Full of Posiez, une collection de personnages craquants à mourir. Elle a commencé sa carrière en faisant des croquis de petites filles, et c'est là que les Posiez sont nées. Elle savait qu'un jour, elles en feraient des poupées. Lyllionia a été la première à voir le jour, suivie de Panzy, la petite pirate et Delilah, aux cheveux roses, naîtra au printemps. La peinture est venue plus tard pour Queenie, qui désirait donner vie à ses dessins numériques. Depuis, ils ont été détournés sous différentes formes : badges, parapluies, sacs, entre autres, disponibles sur le site américain Etsy et bientôt à l'Antre d'Alice.

She knew eventually they would become dollies. Lyllionia was the first dolly to be born, then Panzy the pirate and pink-haired Delilah will be available in the spring. Paintings came later when she wanted her "art to have more life than a digital cartoon". Now her art takes different shapes and forms on her Etsy store where she offers a whole array of goodies including and not limited to pins, stickers, purses and umbrellas.

Benjamin Lacombe
Voici un artiste à découvrir d'urgence. Benjamin est un jeune illustrateur qui nous émerveille en sortant des livres pour la jeunesse magnifiquement illustrés avec un côté gothique qui nous interpelle particulièrement. A noter parmi ses œuvres, une édition illustrée des contes d'Edgard Allan Poe et son pop-up "Il était une fois" qui vient de paraître et que l'on peut découvrir page par page dans cette vidéo. Il y revisite les contes de notre enfance : Pinocchio, Alice au Pays des Merveilles, La Belle au bois dormant, Barbe Bleue, Peter Pan. Allez-y, suivez le lapin blanc...
